List of Canadian ambassadors and high commissioners to Ireland
This is a list of Canadian ambassadors and high commissioners to Ireland. Prior to 1949 Canada sent High Commissioners to the Irish Free State, which was a fellow Commonwealth Realm at the time. With the passage of the Republic of Ireland Act 1948, the Oireachtas (Irish parliament) explicitly stated that Ireland was a republic. Therefore, since Canada and Ireland no longer share a head of state, under diplomatic theory, they must now exchange ambassadors.
